2022 Pinot Noir
Petaluma Gap
2022 Pinot Noir
Petaluma Gap, Sonoma County
Our Rowan Vineyard Pinot Noir occupies a hillside on the northern edge of the Petaluma Gap, on a steep, south-facing, rolling hillside with the steepest slopes facing south and southwest. The soil here has a higher percentage of limestone than usual for this area. The grapes are fully destemmed and fermented in stainless steel for 14 days on native yeasts, and the wine is aged in 40% new French oak barrels for seventeen months with minimal intervention. Enjoyable now, best between 2025 - 2030.
Tasting notes -- Fresh and ripe strawberry and rhubarb with a touch of dark cocoa and crushed red peppers lead to black tea and black olive tapenade on the finish.
